Buried beside his wife on the old Griner estate in Marion County, FL.
Had a son by his first wife, last name Wise, in NC. Martin and his second wife, Sarah, moved to Marion County, FL about 1843 along with Sarah's brother Hiram and his family. They settled on a farm five miles north of Ocala and became wealthy--owned much acreage and 65 slaves.Martin married Sarah Jane ALDERMAN on 5 Jan 1843. Sarah (daughter of Samuel ALDERMAN and Sarah CHESTNUT) was born in 1822; died on 23 Jun 1869. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

GRINER, NATHANIEL G.H. (2nd Lt.) enlisted 4th Sept.1863,Co-K 9th Regiment Fla. Infantry Ocala, Fla. Name appears last on Roster 4th Dec.1864 near Petersburg, Va. Lt. Griner probably fought in Battle of Olustee Florida State Historians tell us that the 9th Regiment fought in this battle. N. G. H. Griner became the first husband of Sarah Elizabeth W. Leitner. (Researched by Fannie Belle Priest Kipp from papers obtained from the Florida and South Carolina Archives and from stories told by relatives.)

Recalled by Kathleen Leitner Holden. "Jonathan Samuel and Ida (Foxworth) Griner lived on a farm near Melrose, Fla. where he grew strawberries and peaches among other things. He had an extremely 'intelligent horse' named 'Charlie'. Charlie would be hitched to a wagon filled with strawberries, turned in the right direction and with a 'slap on the back' would head for the little station called Brooklyn (now Keystone Heights) where the agent removed the strawberries to be shipped to N.Y., then turned Charlie homeward bound where he would be met and greeted with affection. "Everybody knows Kirby Griner, the intimate of the rich and the friend of the poor and deserving ex-corporal of the Ocala Rifles-small Of statue and big of heart. A month ago he went into Missouri and joined the noble band of benedicts by taking unto himself the missing rib, in the person of the fair and fascinating Miss Susie Gaskill, which happy and auspicious event occurred July 16, witnessed by a host of well wishers. Friend Kirby richly deserves the honors of a blushing bride. Mr. Griner returned from his honey-moon last Friday and will be followed in due season by Mrs.Griner who is spending the summer with her Missouri friends."Family/Spouse: Sue GASKIL.
