  • Notes
    • Capt. John D. Leitner of Leitner, Fla. died Saturday, April 13 1890 of throat trouble of which he had been an acute sufferer for four months. Capt. Leitner has been a citizen of Marion Co. for over 30 years, coming here from S.C. and was 53 years of age at the time of his demise. Capt. Leitner during the war was a member of Col. John W. Martin's Arty Co. and a more patient, courageous, obedient, faithful soldier never bore arms in any conflict. He was a most genial whole souled, and hospitable gentleman, who numbered his friends by the score. His virtues were many and faults few, trusting his noble example of mind and heart and citizenship many find in his sons, descendants worthy of so grand a sire.

LEITNER, JOHN DANIEL (Lt.) enlisted 12 Doe.1861 In Capt. Perry's (formerly Marion) Light Artillery at Fernandina, Fla. (He used his own horse) On last roll 11 May 1865,Meridian, Miss. (surrendered 4 May 1865, Citronella, Ala.)(same as brother George) (Researched by Fannie Belle Priest Kipp from papers obtained from the Florida and South Carolina Archives and from stories told by relatives.)
