John West was born in Pensacola Fl., was adopted as an infant, and grew up in DeFuniak Springs Fl, with his adoptive mother. His adoptive father passed away when John was almost three. John served in the U.S. Air Force, including duty in Viet Nam, and later served in the Air Force Reserve (433rd), for a combined career of thirty years. His civilian job was with American Airlines, handling cargo at the San Antonio Airport cargo terminal, also for more that thirty years. John was married to Rose Marie, a career employee of USAA, for near half a century. Together, they enjoyed raising their daughter, traveling and bowling, and they were long time members of Trinity Baptist Church. They also helped raise their grandson, and they cared for Rosie's mom in her later years, in their home. John had a long, story-filled affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America, taking Scoutmaster duties for Troop 13 for some 25 years, and then Troop 186. Both troops produced many Eagle Scouts, and John earned much high praise and recognition in the Alamo Area Council, to include the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. John was survived by his daughter and her husband, and two grandchildren. John had many life-long friends from the Air Force, from American Airlines, and from the Boy Scouts. He is missed.
