The following is from a Marion Co. (Fla.) newspaper Story:
Jacob and Charlotte Souter Leitner were pioneer residents of Marion Co.,Fla. They left their home in Columbia,S.C. on Dec-13,1855 for Florida with their nine children for what is now known as Anthony.

Mr. and Mrs.Leitner and the smaller children rode In a carriage, the older children in buggies, and wagons (covered) carried personal and household goods and the Leitner slaves. On the first day the caravan traveled only 15 miles and the entire trip took over four weeks.

Eight of the Leitner's nine children settled in and around Marion Co. One daughter,Susan Anne C.Leitner married Jefferson Lever of Columbia,S.C. and she returned there to live. . . .

Charlotte married Jacob LEITNER on 1 Nov 1834 in South Carolina. Jacob (son of Jacob LEITNER and Mary Eve GRADICK) was born on 5 Nov 1807; died on 20 Jul 1884; was buried in Anthony Cemetary, Anthony, FL. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

2. John Daniel LEITNER was born in 1837; died on 13 Apr 1890; was buried in Anthony Cemetery.
3. Catherine Mary F. LEITNER was born on 5 Jun 1839 in Richland County, SC; died on 4 Oct 1895 in Anthony, FL.
4. Susan Anne Charlotte LEITNER was born in 1841; and died.
5. Jacob LEITNER was born between 1841 and 1845; and died.
6. James D. LEITNER was born in 1845; and died.
7. Sarah Elizabeth Waring LEITNER was born in 1847; and died.
8. Thomas Jacob LEITNER was born in 1850; and died.
9. Nancy Ophelia Madoria LEITNER was born on 27 Apr 1852 in Richland Dist, SC; died on 1 May 1939 in Oxford, FL.
10. Buford H. LEITNER was born in 1855; died in 1943.

George married Catherine Barbary SMITH in 1808. Catherine (daughter of Stephen SMITH and Mary Eve HAMITER) was born on 17 Apr 1788; died on 7 Sep 1881. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Stephen Smith came from England with his wife Mollie and there four children. He was granted, by King George III, a plantation of tract of land in Crave County, Camden District (now Richland and Fairfield counties), SC in the year 1765. The land was situated on a branch of the Broad River known as Cedar Creek and was surrounded by vacant land.
